Installation of solar panels in Kosovo, a trend of continuous growth

The past year has marked a large increase in the number of requests for the installation of solar panels on the roof.

Increased awareness of environmental impacts, the need to improve efficiency, as well as power outages caused by lack of supply during 2021 and 2022 have shown a significant increase in the installation of rooftop solar systems in Kosovo.

Almost intuitively, private businesses, public institutions as well as householders have installed solar panels on their roofs. Their market is quite wide where in Kosovo you can find local or imported panels from the region and beyond. As well as having a large range of solar panel installers.

Bureaucratic procedures often make the process of installing RES generators in Kosovo quite unpleasant. However, in the country it is seen that there is a desire and will to realize their demands.

Increase in the number of requests

There has been an increase in the number of requests submitted to KEDS, ERO and the relevant municipalities to acquire the status of Self-Producing Consumers or Prosumers. As can be seen in the graph below, the number of requests has multiplied last year.

Most of the submitted requests are realized by businesses. In addition to the larger number of requests, businesses also install systems with large capacities. This comes as a result of the larger roof spaces to place the panels as well as the greater need for energy. However, the number of requests made by domestic consumers, which make up 1/3 of the requests, should not be underestimated.

Whereas the municipalities with the largest flow of requests are Pristina, Gjakova and Ferizaj, respectively.
